First Annual Mid-Michigan Playwrighting Festival
I don't know if playwrighting is a word but if they're giving away money for it, it doesn't really matter :-).
SVSU is sponsoring a playwriting festival right here in the Tri-Cities area. The site doesn't say what the prizes are for winning, but I hear from a reliable source that first prize is $100.
The site up there has some information about it, due dates and contact info and such. The place where that first site refers you to, the one with help on script formatting is wrong though. It's actually this: http://www.hangartheater.org/templates/next_stage_tips.pdf
Each person is allowed to submit one ten-minute script only. It must be previously unpublished and unproduced too. Due by April 1st. (I'm thinking of submitting my island play. The absurd one about the Gilberts. Not sure if it's good enough though.)
I think everyone should write a script for it, especially STA and Troupe alumni. Why? Because not only would it be awesome to win $100, but I think it would be really funny if all the people who won a contest sponsored by SVSU were people who never actually attended SVSU (it's extra funny to me because my alma mater is in the same conference as SVSU and I'm just competitive like that). Of course, I'm underestimating the writing potential of those who attend SVSU, but I think it'd still be funny.
Anyway, write a ten-minute play. I guess that's about nine or ten pages in script format. You can do that, right? Good luck!
