For those of you who haven't guessed from the Professor's comments, I'm leaving on a jet plane for Oregon, where the hills are alive with the sound of music...and llamas. I'm moving out to the west coast for three months so I can hang out with The Professor, Hoochie Momma, Roar and Meow :-). Hurray!
Anyway, a week ago I emailed my pal ljbean13. She was my roommate in college. She's neat. Lj likes running and hiking and outdoors-y stuff. She's one of a couple girlfriends in college that I actually keep in touch with. I guess you really get to know a person when you live with her for two semesters.
I told her I was sorry for not getting together with her sooner since she lives down state and all, and that I'd be moving to Oregon in about a month (less than that now. Then I said for details, she'd have to call me, and I gave her my cell phone number.
Low and behold! She called me! Hurray! So we caught up with each other. I told her about me and Stink Pants #5; she told me about her and her boyfriend, SRDpunk. Then, of course I apologized for driving by her town so many times and not stopping by. She countered with:
Ljbean13: What are you doing this weekend?
Laura: Nothing. What are you doing this weekend?
Ljbean13: Nothing.
So she came to visit me! Hurray! This girl is a machine. She's in training for a marathon in Minnesota and she hopes to qualify for the Boston Marathon. To prepare herself, she ran a ten-mile race Saturday morning before driving up to see me. She was the second woman to pass the finish line. Impressive!
We picked blueberries, made smoothies, watched movies and went shopping. The whole time we talked like we had never left each other, even though we hadn't seen each other in 2.5 years.
Good friends are awesome like that. Even though you may lose touch and not talk to each other for a number of years, when you finally do make contact again, you find your personalities are still compatible with each other. I know people change, but...well you guys know. Deep down, we're still who we are.
Blah. I don't think I can describe what I mean. I know what I mean though.
So we had and awesome time, and I was really sad when she left. I told her she could come and visit me in Oregon since she likes hiking so much (I hope you don't mind Professor and Hoochie Momma!) and hopefully it won't be 2.5 years before we see each other again.
