Speed Playwriting (or Playwrighting)

Remember that contest I plugged a couple weeks ago?

I wrote a play for it.

I'm not going to jinx my chances by writing about the plot or posting an excerpt here, at least not for right now. They're supposed to do the judging in April. So after that deadline has passed if I remember, I'll post an excerpt from the play regardless of the outcome of the contest.

I did learn some things from my writing experience this time around though.

First of all, here's a good website for standard stage play format, courtesy of the Chameleon Theatre Circle of Lakeville, MN. I've bookmarked it for future reference. It's thorough enough and it includes visual samples in both .pdf and .doc files.

Second, I can write a play in a couple nights provided that I have a good idea to start and it's 3:00 am (I was late to work today because I was jotting down dialogue last night.) Record for a play written in the shortest amount of time: 2 hours (between the hours of three and five in the morning. Nevermind that it could only be ten pages long at the most.)

Thirdly, Stink Pants #5 doesn't laugh at the same stuff I do. At least, not in plays I write. I read him the play, and he didn't laugh at the stuff I thought he'd laugh at. These were lines that made me laugh to myself as I wrote them (they also made me feel like I'm a genius), and he didn't give me so much as a titter. He may have smiled, but I couldn't tell because we were on the phone. That's okay though. It was just something I've noticed with the last couple plays I've written.

Well, here's hoping my talents are good enough to win $100.
