Boston Returned! (I didn't have any Boston Beans)

Okay, first things first. We didn't really go to Boston. We went to a city just thirty minutes outside of it. It's by Worcester (pronounced Worse-ter. Not Worchester, Worcesester, or Bob.)

Man, I haven't felt like writing lately, so I'm debating on whether I should make this a super long post, or a short and sweet one. I guess I'll find out at the end.

So anyway, we left on Monday at 7:30. 7:30 p.m. Yes, that late. Why? I don't know. C-Whore's cousin Rigby had a class that ended at 4:00, and it took her until 5:30 to make it to CWhore's house, but still...7:30? The cars were already packed and stuff. C-Whore blames her mom, Vicstro, for doing a lot of last minute things. It doesn't really matter.

So we left after a teary good-bye and set out for the Canadian border in C-Whore's car and Vicstro's Suburban. C-Whore took the point, Vicstro likes to drive s-l-o-w-l-y. Cutting across to Buffalo, NY was the shortest route MapQuest could suggest. It did add the extra hassle of bringing our birth certificates, but we didn't get stopped for smuggling beef jerky out of Canada, so it balances out. We stopped in Buffalo for the night at about 1:00 am. Here are some observances I made about Canada: the semi trucks don't mind passing you on the left at a bazillion kilometers per hour; roads have weird names, like Uttoxeter; and when buying gas, buy with your credit card so you don't have to have Canadian change in your wallet.

We started out of Buffalo at 10:30. Our drive through New York and Massachusetts was very pretty. There are lots of rolling hills, quaint farmhouses and old Victorian-style houses that really add a charm to the countryside that you can't see around here that often in Michigan. Even the couple correctional facilities we passed were gorgeous! No really, they were large and brick and pretty. If I ever have to go to jail, I'm gonna take a lesson from Martha Stewart and go to a correctional facility in upstate New York. So pretty.

We arrived at our destination at 6:30 and proceeded to unload all of C-Whore's worldly possessions. C-Whore took station at the bottom and unloaded her car and the Suburban while Vicstro waited at the top of the stairs for Rigby and I to run everything up. It was a nice workout after sitting in a car for eight hours.

Since C-Whore's roommate wasn't home, we went out to eat for dinner. If you thought Michigan was bad with Michigan Lefts, C-Whore's new town is even worse. At least in Michigan there are places to turn around every block or so. In C-Whore's new town, we had to drive at least five mintues or more before we could find a place to turn around to get to the restaurant on the other side of the street.

When we got back we met C-Whore's new roommate, Gem. She's really nice. Gem helped us put together C-Whore's futon and remove the door from her closet to make more room. She also told us a little about the community, the history of the apartment building, and the neighbors, one of whom we met. As we were unloading the cars, a guy who came out of the building told us in a heavy Boston accent that the tenants had just finished battling the worst cockroach problem EVAH. He also told us the washer and dryer were busted. Gem told us he's a liar :-).

It was pretty late by then, so we all bedded down for the night. I slept on the air mattress. Air mattresses are dumb. They'd be better if they actually held air.

In the morning (Wednesday) we drove to where C-Whore would be working the next day. It's a big brick building with shiny copper windows. Looks neat and it was easy to get to.

We had another teary good-bye after that. It was about noon. when Rigby, Vicstro and I pulled out in the Suburban while C-Whore watched from her apartment building's driveway.

We decided to take a different route back home, driving through Connecticut, Pennsylvania and Ohio. It was long, fifteen hours, but at least I got to sleep in my own bed that night. We did stop for lunch and dinner, so that ate up some time. The Suburban has a forty gallon tank, so we only had to fill up three times on the way back, but it cost around $70 each time.

All in all, a fun trip, but very tiring.
